All registrants MUST download and fill out the required forms to present prior to taking the test/ practice. The forms, guidebook and videos have been updated with new information and are available on this page, in the column on the right or below.
Important: Please Read
*Participants must be 18 years of age or older The RIAFC will offer the Firefighter Physical Performance Assessment Test (PPA) for firefighter candidates. A credit card or PayPal account is required ($175 for test with the practice included). Most Rhode Island fire departments accept this PPA certificate. For specific department information and/or requirements, contact the local fire department. A certificate recognizing a passing time (time limit 8 minutes) will be handed out immediately following your test should you pass. Your certificate is good for one (1) full year. Individual cities or towns reserve the right to request specifically dated tests, which may require you to take the test twice in a 12-month period. A completed Medical Examination Form signed within 1 year of test date and Waiver and Release Form must be submitted at the practice session or test session. Without these forms you will not be permitted to participate in the PPA nor will the PPA be rescheduled.
Once you have paid online with a valid credit card or PayPal account , a test date and a practice session date (if chosen) will be assigned. Dates are issued in order, on a first registered, first scheduled basis. Remember: in order to participate in a practice session, you must select that option during the registration process.
PPA Practice & Test Dates:
When registering, you will have the ability to choose one practice date and one test date. Registering for a practice is NOT required. If you plan on attending a practice session you must choose a date to reserve your slot. You will NOT be able to choose your time.
