RIAFC SAFER 2 – Reimbursement Request Form January 2020

RIAFC Chiefs Handout Page 2 Highlights

The Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs Foundation’s (RIAFC) scholarship program was developed to recruit and retain volunteers in response to a critical need identified by our Association’s volunteer fire departments and emergency medical services providers. The RIAFC scholarship program is funded by a 2018 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant through the Department of Homeland Security.

There are 3 attachments that will explain our grant’s benefits (Chiefs Handout), describe the requirements and process (Admin Guide), and how to request funds (Request Form).

All Fire Service families & friends should support the 100 Club of RI

The RI Association of Fire Chiefs urge all fire service families to support The 100 club of RI

Many of you may already know, but so many more members of the fire service are unaware of the 100 Club of Rhode Island, and all of the amazing support this organization gives to firefighters and police officers in the State of Rhode Island. The members of this organization  support the families of firefighters and police officers who died in the line of duty and much more. Within 24 hours of a line of duty death, a $25,000 check is given to the family for their immediate use, with no restrictions. They also support the children of many firefighters and police officers who apply for educational grants to support their college education.

To further emphasize their support, this fantastic organization has most recently written checks to the RIAFC Foundation totaling $75,000 to support the building of the RI Firefighters Memorial (see pictures below).

We ask you to follow the links below to their website to learn all about the 100 Club, which exists solely to support fire and police families in their time of need.

100 Club presents $50,000 check for RI Firefighter Memorial! Construction update included.

The 100 Club of RI presented a $50,000 check to the RIAFC Foundation and the RI association of Fire Chiefs at the 100 Club annual dinner. The money is in support of the building of the RI Firefighter Memorial, located at the entrance of the RI Fire Academy. The project has been spearheaded, and is being built by the RIAFC Foundation and the RI Association of Fire Chiefs.

100 Club president Jim Grundy (right) and vice president Joe Terino (left) presented the check to RIAFC Foundation president, Chief Tim Walsh, Chief Scott Kettelle, RIAFC board member and project chairman, and Chief Rick Susi, Ret., RIAFC Executive Director.

The project is currently under construction with footings and foundation already completed. The area has been backfilled and two large dead trees in close proximity have been removed. The bronze centerpiece statue is being crafted with delivery expected in July. Bronze inlays as well as a 25foot detailed Maltese cross at the center of the plaza have also been ordered, with similar delivery dates.

Over $50,000 worth of personalized memorial pavers have been ordered and will be installed in the plaza by summers end, when the bulk of the project is expected to be completed. A dedication ceremony is tentatively scheduled for October 26, 2019.

Anyone interested in purchasing personalized memorial pavers should click here

There are still multiple ways to support the project by both personal and corporate contributions. For example, Bronze plaques are being placed at the base of each of the five flagpoles recognizing their sponsors. Other plaques will recognize in kind donations of contractors donating their services during construction, as well as specific personalized memorials. If you have any questions how you can be a part of the first RI State Firefighters Memorial, please contact Chief Rick Susi at 401-692-0795 or
