| The RIAFC Foundation has donated $300 to Universe Juice, an organization whose main goal is to reunite trauma survivors and/or families who have lost loved ones, with the first responders who were there in their time of need. Moira's Mission" was created to raise money to buy portable fire extinguishers to be distributed in the community.
In 2020, Moira Perna's life was tragically cut short due to a fire following a motor vehicle accident. Moira's daughter, Lisa Lynch, wanted to do something in her mother's honor while at the same time, try to help prevent others from experiencing such a horrific loss. As a result, Universe Juice, along with the Union and Kingston Fire Districts in South Kingstown, helped Lisa create Moira's Mission. Last year, they raised enough in donations to purchase 100 portable fire extinguishers which were donated to the South Kingstown Fire Department to be handed out to residents free of charge. In addition to the local community, they also had people drive down from Warwick and Providence to secure extinguishers. To continue this campaign, each year they will select at least one new fire district/department to which they will donate extinguishers to be distributed to their community. This year they worked with the Richmond-Carolina Fire District. With donated funds and product donations from Aubuchon Ace Hardware in Richmond, the Richmond-Carolina Fire District, and Jerry's Hardware in Narragansett, Moira's Mission provided 200 extinguishers to the community. The funds donated to Universe Juice by the RIAFC Foundation will be used for the purchase of fire extinguishers to be donated at their next event (date to be determined) to the North Kingstown Fire Department.
The goal of Moira's Mission is to eventually spread this campaign across the entire state. The RIAFC Foundation is interested in helping them continue and expand this program, and encourage our members across the state to participate.
